Eagle Valley High School Construction Update
The new remodel at Eagle Valley High School (EVHS), which will contribute to the state-of-the-art mentality around various projects in Eagle County Schools (ECS), is expected to be complete by late fall 2009.
“The construction project will give us the tools to providing great opportunities to our students along with the outstanding opportunities we have in place,” Cliff Zehring, EVHS Athletic/Activities Director.
Gypsum, CO –The new remodel at Eagle Valley High School (EVHS), which will contribute to the state-of-the-art mentality around various projects in Eagle County Schools (ECS), is expected to be complete by late fall 2009. In order to celebrate what is sure to be an even more fantastic facility, there will be an official groundbreaking ceremony at 5:30 p.m. and the Open House from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on September 11, 2008.
The Science remodel should be complete by the day the students return for the 2008-2009 school year on September 2, 2008. The Life Safety upgrades are currently being put into place and will be complete before the students come back as well. During the fall, students, staff and parents will have to work their way around the art remodel (an anticipated completion date of October 6, 2008) and the installation of the new greenhouse (an expected completion date of December 12, 2008).
“The new Art facilities will have a wet room that will allow our students to take ceramics and sculpture classes in a space that is dedicated solely to them,” said Bonnie Franklin, Mentor Teacher and one of the three Art Teachers at EVHS. “We look to the increased space as an opportunity to expand the art program in order to meet the varied interests, needs and abilities of our students. For many students, art enriches their lives, but for some it is a future career that requires in-depth studies and freedom to explore their abilities within these studies.”
"As with any remodel or new construction being added to an existing facility there will be construction inconveniences,” said Mark Strakbein, EVHS Principal. “This presents our student body, staff, parents and school community an opportunity to work together as we go through some challenging facility impacts during this year. Our senior class has been given the charge of ‘leading EVHS through adversity’ and is motivated to continuing our positive energy through this process."
For those with vehicles, all parking for students and teachers will be in the North lot (see attached plan), while the new South lot will only be accessible to the construction team. Parent vehicle and bus drop-off will remain the same. The construction exit will be through the bus drop-off area.
By March 2009, the Auditorium remodel should be complete, just in time for the popular EVHS Spring Musical held every year. Thespians and spectators alike are sure to relish in the new facility. The new gym, kitchen/commons area, admin/kitchen and new video/tech wing all have an anticipated completion date of Summer 2009.
“One half of the technology wing will consist of a new Video Broadcast lab and studio, which are both being built to accommodate large classes of students,” said David Russell, EVHS Technology Coordinator. “The other half will house the Computer-Aid Drafting Lab, as well as a Technology Education classroom, where students will be able to partake in futuristic projects and complete other hands-on activities. As we all know, technology changes rapidly over time and these new technology classrooms are designed to be flexible and provide 21st century facilities for classes teaching 21st Century skills."
