Congratulations Class of 2006

“In the six years since leaving Eagle County Schools, I’ve met a lot of people from a lot of different backgrounds. I went to college with kids who received private school education, graduated from I.B. Programs, and attended some of the best specialty schools in their states. Never once have I felt like I was outclassed and under-prepared.
Education and the exploration of knowledge is an intangible concept. That’s what makes it so incredible. Successful students aren’t the kids who have the most stuff at their school, but the ones with the most enriching teachers.”
Calling all Alumni...where are you now?
In upcoming issues of News from Eagle County Schools, we would like to feature the successesof our many alumni. Please contact Brooke Skjonsby at bskjonsby@eagleschools.net and let us know about yourself; or parents, let us know what your children are doing now. Pictures are welcome, too!

The Youth Foundation Guardian Scholarships Turn Dreams Into Realities
Ron and Lucy Davis, of Edwards, see the hope of our future through the lens of successful youth. As champions of this remarkable program, they are compelled by their personal compassion and faith to assist youth who come from challenging backgrounds with significant hardships.
Recipients of the Guardian Scholarship receive full tuition plus all other expenses including room, board and books to a participating college or university. This year five Eagle County Schools’ Graduates were awarded Guardian Scholarships valued at over $20,000 annually. Joe Felix of Eagle Valley High will be attending Mesa State this fall, along with Battle Mountain students Gustavo Bronfield and Nicole Johnson. Josie Sutner of Battle Mountain will be attending Columbia University and Matt Kroschel, a Red Canyon graduate, will be attending Central Christian University in Kansas.
Modeled after the successful Guardian Scholars program started by Ron Davis in Orange County, California, in 1997, students are equipped with the educational and interpersonal skills necessary to become self-supporting, competent adults. Success is dependent upon a team effort that combines participating colleges, donors, mentors, and students. Currently, seven Eagle County Guardian Scholars are attending Mesa State, one student will complete his senior year at CU Boulder and another student is currently studying at Colorado Mountain College. Scholarships are made possible by leveraging the expertise and resources of the private sector together with federal financial aid.
Thank you Eagle County!
Please join us in extending our heartfelt thanks to the community organizations that made college scholarships possible for so many of our graduates.
