What is TAP?
TAP stands for Teacher Advancement Program and is made up of four key elements: 1. Multiple Career Paths 2. Ongoing Applied Professional Growth 3. Instructionally Focused Accountability 4. Pay for Performance Awards
It was developed by the Milken Family Foundation and adapted to fit the needs of Eagle County Schools. TAP's goal is to increase student achievement by placing a high quality, well prepared teacher in front of every child, every day.
TAP helps teachers become the best they can be by giving them opportunities to learn more effective teaching strategies and holding them accountable for student performance.
Highlights of the TAP model include:
- Attracts talented people to the teaching profession – and keeps them there – by making it more attractive and rewarding to be a teacher.
- Provides opportunity for quality teachers to advance their careers by becoming Mentor or Master teachers thereby increasing responsibility and compensation without moving into administration
- All teachers, including new teachers, have the benefit of on-going evaluations and the support of Mentor and Master teachers
- Provides time (120 minutes minimum) within the regular work week for teachers to learn, plan and grow collaboratively during Cluster meetings
- Cluster meetings focus exclusively on improving instructional strategies to impact student achievement
- Principal, Master and Mentor teachers systematically (4 times annually) evaluate teacher performance in content knowledge and instructional skills through an established rubric and use this information to individualize professional development
- Assessment of individual student learning gains based on pre/post NWEA testing and CSAP
- Salary and bonuses determined by teaching effectiveness and student achievement
