What do you get when you combine a nerdy botanist with a ditsy blond, a sadistic dentist, a neurotic flower shop owner, sassy doo-wop girls and a plant with dark intentions? A hilarious musical comedy, of course, which will feature Battle Mountain High School (BMHS) students for four nights only this week.
The BMHS players proudly present ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ from Wednesday, April 11 through Saturday, April 14 in the Battle Mountain High School Auditorium. All showtimes are at 7:00pm sharp.
Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy young assistant, and Audrey Fulquard, his co-worker, work for Mr. Mushnik at his floundering Flower Shop in the skid row area of New York City in the 1960’s. The day of an unexpected total eclipse, Seymour discovers a mysterious new plant resembling a Venus Flytrap, which he names it Audrey II after his secret crush on Audrey.
After discovering Audrey II has an appetite for human blood, the plant begins to thrive, business is better than ever and Seymour becomes a local celebrity overnight. Trouble abounds when Audrey’s less than popular significant other comes into the mix and the growing plant demands more and more human blood to survive. From the colorful costumes and comical script to the talented acting and impressive stage set-up, this is one production you won’t want to miss!
The original Broadway production features a verity of musical genres, including rock-and-roll, doo-wop and Motown. Classic songs like Skid Row, Somewhere That’s Green and Suddenly, Seymour will be sung by BMHS notables Bailey Garton and Trevor Davidson, and will have the audience roaring with laughter.
Musical Director, Sheresa Willbanks, is excited for the production, which dozens of students have been working tirelessly on for nearly two months straight now. “This may be one of the best musical productions BMHS has ever put on due to the overwhelming support of the many people involved in producing the show, including students, staff and parents,” states Willbanks.
