Will bonuses for student achievement negatively impact teachers working with disadvantaged populations?

by Brooke Skjonsby last modified October 29, 2007 01:18 PM

All performance bonuses will be tied to increasing student achievement by rewarding teachers for the academic growth of their students. When using an individual student growth model to determine student achievement, each student is his/her own control group relative to achievement. In many cases, students who start out below grade level make even greater gains than students who are already proficient.  Specific details on these bonus opportunities will be announced in Phase IV of the grant communications in May 17.
