New Math Resource!
Our school community now uses Upraised Math, a resource designed specifically to help parents and families support student success in math. With Upraised, parents can see what their child is learning at school, understand today’s teaching methods, access resources to support learning at home, and receive text/email updates throughout the year to stay informed! Message from the Principal

Welcome to the 2015-16 school year at Red Hill Elementary. The teachers and staff at Red Hill are extremely excited for another great school year with you and your students.

This year promises to be an outstanding year as we work collectively to bring our school vision to life – Red Hill Elementary is a respectful and supportive community where life-long learners grow and thrive together. From an emphasis on teaching all students to high standards to nurturing the social and emotional development of our students through teaching our character traits, we look forward to helping each individual reach his or her fullest potential.

As a staff we are engaging in collective inquiry this year around the guiding question of, “How can we incorporate family involvement, student-directed learning, and integrated subjects to create a community of invested learners?” Together we will be exploring new and innovative ways to create meaningful and relevant learning experiences for students. We are committed to providing students with memorable opportunities that will equip them with the skills that they will need to be competitive in tomorrow’s job market.

We look forward to continuing our afterschool enrichment programs as well as our working relationships with Power Hours, The Youth Foundation, Walking Mountains, Girls on the Run, Ute Springs Experiential School, Jazz goes to School, Vail Resorts, and several other groups. Through these partnerships, our rigorous instruction to high standards, and multiple interventions for struggling or advanced students, we feel well prepared to offer a world-class education to your children.

As always, we invite parents to volunteer to help us provide the best possible educational experience for the students at Red Hill. Please consider being an active member of PTO or simply contact your child’s teacher to learn more about opportunities to help out. Please also feel free to contact me at any time for any reason.

Medication Guidelines Update

Each Elementary School has a Health Assistant on staff daily and the support of a district level Registered Nurse. The school's health office is often your first line of contact for any medical issue, surgery, condition, medication, or emergency that affects your child attending school.

The RHES Health Office hours: 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The health office can provide you with district guidelines to bring a medication to school and have absences approved for a doctor's appointment.

We need written permission from a parent or guardian to speak to any medical professional. If for any reason this is necessary please make sure to fill out the; Request to Release or Secure Confidential Information Form. This form is valid for one year.

Our goal is to keep your children healthy and in school. We are here to help and look forward to working with you.

911 is called in any emergency.

Health Care Plans
Health Care Plans are required for any student with an identified health concern. If your child needs a Health Care Plan, or you're not sure if they need one, please contact the district nurse. Plans are valid for one year, require a doctor's signature, a parent's signature, and the district nurse's signature.

Every student who is on a medication is required to have a completed 'permission for medication' form on file.

Students who are on a Health Care Plan are able to carry their own medication only if the 'self-carry' form is completed.

If the student has an emergency medication such as an inhaler or epi-pen and is 'self-carrying' these medications, then the Health Office requires a duplicate medication to be kept in the Health Office.

If the required forms are not completed, then the Health Office will be unable to administer your child's medication.

Medications
Any medication on school grounds must be accounted for, including all over-the-counter medications such as Advil, Tylenol, and cough drops.

All Medications are required to have:
   Student's Name
   Student's date of birth
   Permission for Medication form on file including health care provider and parent signature
   Self-Carry form as necessary
   Direction on medication administration and physician information
   Current non-expired bottle
   Storage Instructions
Emergency Medication such as Epi-Pens or Inhalers:
Inhalers and epi-pens need to have labels on the medication. The box is not acceptable. Ask your pharmacist to print a second label for the actual medication.
If your child has a "self-carry" contract for any emergency medication, then the Health Office requires a duplicate medication kept in the Health Office with all the correct paperwork.
Medications that are given at home and at school:
If a medication is to be given at school and at home ask the pharmacist place the medication into two separate bottles.
Controlled substances
Controlled substances are allowed in school only if kept in the Health Office with all of the correct Paperwork. No student will have "self-carry" permission for any controlled substance. This includes all ADD/ADHD medications, anxiety medications, and pain medications. Controlled substances should be brought into the Health Office and picked up from the Health Office by a parent or guardian.
Students who want to carry medications with them:

Students are permitted to "self-carry" medication only if the Health Office has the correct paperwork on file. This includes over-the-counter medications. Students are required to complete BOTH of the following:
   The "Self-Carry" Contract
   Permission for medication form
Medication kept in the Health office:
Students are able to keep any medication in the Health office. We can refrigerate medication if necessary.
All Medication not picked-up by the last day of school is discarded.
